I studied photography at the Rocky Mountain School of Photography in Missoula, Montana in 1996. I can think
of no better training for a writer. Not only does photography help develop a skill for thinking in concrete
imagery, but also in creating a constant awareness. In looking for images, a photographer is constantly
working to see in fresh ways. In the writing classroom, I often use photography when discussing description,
and creating a greater sense of place or setting. I also find it useful for helping students learn about metaphor
and allegory. The images below are just a small sampling of my work.
